Senior/Principal Piping Engineer
Altrad Babcock is currently seeking a Senior/Principal Piping Engineer to join our Major Projects division in Teesside. The successful candidate will lead piping engineering and design activities for industrial projects, including the development of 2D and 3D layouts, construction isometrics, and other engineering deliverables required for successful project execution. Reporting to the Piping Engineering Manager, you will supervise and develop a team of piping engineers and designers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective solutions that meet industry standards, client specifications, and project requirements.
Key Deliverables:
- Lead piping engineering and design activities for industrial projects, including development of 2D and 3D layouts, construction isometrics, and associated engineering deliverables.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of piping engineers and designers to achieve project objectives.
- Ensure all piping designs comply with applicable industry standards, client specifications, and project requirements.
- Deliver high-quality, cost-effective engineering solutions that are technically sound and fit for purpose.
- Manage and control project schedules and work-hour budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Coordinate and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to achieve integrated project solutions.
- Provide technical leadership for piping system design, analysis, optimisation, and problem-solving activities.
- Support the successful execution of Greenfield and Brownfield projects across multiple industry sectors.
- Ensure design compliance with project requirements, codes, standards, and regulatory obligations.
- Resolve technical and contractual issues arising during project execution.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables and design documentation.
- Promote engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and best practice within the piping discipline.
- Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders, discipline leads, clients, and external partners.
- Support business growth through the successful delivery of FEED and EPC projects.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with a focus on Piping System Design.
- Minimum of 10 years’ specialised experience in piping engineering.
- Extensive knowledge of piping engineering principles, standards, material science, and industry best practices.
- Experience delivering FEED and EPC projects within industrial sectors.
- Strong working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD design processes and associated engineering software.
- Proven experience leading and developing engineering and design teams.
- Experience within Sustainable Fuels, Hydrogen, Pharmaceutical, Chemical, Oil & Gas, or similar process industries.
- Ability to manage project schedules, work-hour budgets, and resource requirements.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex engineering and contractual issues.
- Experience in both Greenfield and Brownfield project environments.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of engineering quality, compliance, and project delivery requirements.
