Through hands-on learning, we help them develop new skills and interests, preparing them for a return to education or future employment.

Your Role:

We are seeking an empathetic, committed, and resilient individual who can work flexibly and creatively. Your mission will be to lead and support enriching activities and learning opportunities for children and young adults with complex needs and challenging behaviours. You will need to be disciplined and professional, confidently managing vulnerable children with the necessary care and firmness. You will be required to provide practical support in a construction workshop, so some experience of using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively is desirable.

As an Ad Astra Mentor, you will:

Engage Directly: Be hands-on, working closely with young adults in a natural, adventurous setting.

Lead and support Activities: Plan, deliver, and evaluate sessions and activities that contribute to the development of our students.

Build Relationships: Form strong bonds with students, their parents, and carers.

Create Fun Learning Experiences: Conduct fun, educational, and engaging activities, including cooking lunch with students.

Support Students: Ensure students return home safely, enriched from their day with us.

Maintain Discipline: Handle challenging behaviours professionally, ensuring a safe and structured environment for all.

Requirements for the Role:

Essential :

Ability to engage with SEN students
Passion for encouraging the development of children and young people to enable them to prosper and grow as they prepare to return to education and move into adulthood.
Valid clean full UK driving licence
Ability to think on your feet and be proactive

Desirable:

Valid DBS check, or registered with the online update service
Experience/Knowledge of Safeguarding
Previous experience or skills in a trade
