Full job description

Overview

As a Sous Chef at our Gastro Pub, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Executive Head Chef in overseeing the kitchen operations. You will be responsible for assisting in food preparation, supervising kitchen staff, and ensuring high-quality dishes are served to our guests.

Working with fresh, locally sourced produce to create dishes to high standards.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about food, excellent organisational skills, good team worker, the ability to prioritize and work well under pressure.

45/48 hours over 4 or 5 days (hours negotiable)

Shifts are allocated on a weekly basis

Duties
- Assist in food preparation and cooking
- Help manage and lead kitchen staff
- Supervise food production to ensure consistency and quality
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen
- Support the Executive Head Chef in menu planning and development
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations

Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques
- Leadership abilities to effectively manage and motivate a team
- Excellent understanding of food safety practices
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced restaurant environment

Responsibilities

Supervise and manage daily food preparation and cooking activities within the kitchen, ensuring adherence to recipes and quality standards.
Lead, motivate, and support team members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Oversee food safety protocols, ensuring compliance with hygiene regulations and health & safety legislation.
Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth service delivery in line with organisational goals.
Organise staff schedules, delegate tasks effectively, and monitor performance to optimise productivity.
Assist in training new staff members and providing ongoing development opportunities for team members.
Maintain inventory levels, order supplies as needed, and manage stock control efficiently.
Ensure all food presentation meets organisational standards and customer expectations.
Handle customer feedback professionally, resolving any issues promptly to uphold service excellence.

Experience

Proven supervising experience within a busy kitchen or food production environment.
Extensive background in food preparation, cooking, and culinary arts.
Experience working in hospitality or restaurant settings with a focus on food safety standards.
Strong team management skills with the ability to lead diverse groups effectively.
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management.
Previous experience in a senior culinary role or leadership position is highly desirable.
Familiarity with restaurant operations, serving procedures, and customer service principles is advantageous.

This role requires a proactive leader with excellent organisational skills, a passion for culinary excellence, and the ability to inspire teams to deliver outstanding results consistently.

Pay: £38,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
