Role: Night shift Quality Control Technician
Location: Telford, Shropshire
Salary: £14.08 - 14.96 per hour inclusive of shift allowance
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 18:00-06:00 (44 hours per week)
Reporting to: Quality Manager

The Business
Evolution Foods produces a variety of healthy snacking products, including dried fruit, nuts, peanut butter, and children’s puree fruit snacks.
Established in the early 2000s, the company has grown significantly, employing over 300 staff across four sites, 3 in Hortonwood and 1 in Halesfield, producing products for some of the UK’s major retailers, including Aldi, Lidl, Co-Op, and Home Bargains.
The Role
As a Quality Control Technician, you’ll carry out in-process quality checks, ensuring all production lines meet stringent standards for food safety, hygiene, packaging integrity, traceability, and compliance with allergen protocols. This is a hands-on role working closely with Production and the Senior QC team, requiring a meticulous approach and strong attention to detail.

Duties Include:
- Conduct weight checks at start-up, hourly, and end-of-shift on all assigned lines.
- Verify traceability (GRN) from goods received through to finished product.
- Check and record date codes, lot codes, and packaging integrity throughout production.
- Perform line clearance checks including packaging, product, and metal detection bins.
- Complete metal detector verification checks at key intervals: start-up, hourly, product change, and end-of-shift.
- Escalate any CCP or weight control procedure failures and rejected packs to Senior QC immediately for assessment and corrective action.
- Carry out coding checks (legibility, GRN, BBE, Lot code) ensuring correct print window alignment.
- Ensure allergen positive release procedures are followed correctly and allergen swabbing protocols are met, with photographic evidence sent to QA email.
- Collect and retain samples at start, middle, and end of each production run (including micro testing samples).
- Verify that production activities comply with HACCP, GMP, and site standards.
- Ensure products meet specification requirements, including weight, appearance, packaging, coding, and labelling.
- Monitor product and packaging changeovers to verify effective line clearance and compliance with established procedures.
- Conduct mezzanine sheet checks including GRN traceability, sieve verification, product skirt integrity, and knife checks.
- Verify packaging reel changes with Area Leader sign-off.
- Carry out environmental, product, and hygiene inspections (GMPs) as required.
- Ensure all records are completed in accordance with company and legal requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience in a QA or QC role within food manufacturing (essential).
– Minimum of level 2 Food Safety and Level 2 HACCP trained (essential).
- Solid understanding of food safety, allergen control, and traceability systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good level of IT literacy for completing reports and data entry.
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Able to work independently and escalate issues promptly and effectively.
