Full job description

Winchester GP is a leading private general practice operating from multiple locations throughout Hampshire.

This is an exciting part time opportunity to join our growing and dynamic team, and to deliver best in class care for:

An HCA with particularly strong phlebotomy skills
An experienced phlebotomist who is keen to add further HCA skills to their competency
This is combined role and will also include some patient liaison and administrative work, taking client bookings, and assisting with processing of onwards referrals.

Location: Central Winchester

Hours: c. 25 hours per week, spread over at least 3 days to include Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Salary: Highly competitive dependent on experience

Winchester GP is a leading private general practice operating from multiple locations throughout Hampshire.

The role: Supported by HCA and GP’s within the practice, the Health Care Assistant will be supporting our doctors ‘real-time’ through their clinics with phlebotomy, chaperoning, ECGs and any other clinical or non clinical tasks which may facilitate a 5 star experience.

You will also run your own clinics for the purposes of health screening, blood tests and any other clinical services that fall within your field of competence.

Full support and training will be provided for any less experienced practitioners. Therefore this position is ideal for both experienced HCAs and also phlebotomists, who would like to add further clinical skills to their portfolio.

Your HCA duties could include and not be limited to:

Wellness screening (BP, height, weight, BMI, Urinalysis)
Phlebotomy
ECG recording
Chaperoning duties
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs
Vaccine/cold chain storage monitoring and recording of fridge temperatures.
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

In the administrative/patient liaison part of the role you would

Act as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for patients by telephone, email, and in person.
Support prospective and existing patients in understanding and accessing our services.
Build strong, trusted relationships with patients and their families.
Coordinate appointments, referrals, investigations, and onward care.
Liaise with consultants, hospitals, diagnostic providers, insurers, and other healthcare professionals.
Proactively monitor and follow up referrals, investigations, reports, and appointments to support seamless continuity of care.
Advocate for patients and help navigate barriers or delays within their healthcare journey.
Ensure patients remain informed and supported throughout their interactions with the practice.
Maintain accurate patient records and correspondence in accordance with practice policies and confidentiality requirements.
Support the doctors and wider practice team with day-to-day administrative responsibilities.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of patient experience and practice operations.

Experience & Skills

Essential:

Qualified and at least 1 years experience in Phlebotomy
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Good organisational skills
Effective time management skills
Ability to work independently following verbal or written instructions
Computer literate
Basic IT Skills
Strong administrative and organisational skills.
Excellent IT literacy and confidence using digital systems.
A commitment to delivering exceptional customer and patient service.
