Head Chef / Chef – Film & TV Location Catering

Company: Moonshine Location Catering

Location: Based in Newport, South Wales (Nationwide Travel Required)

Job Type: Freelance/ Self-employed

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) + overnight accommodation provided when on location.

While our roots and production kitchen are based in Newport, South Wales, our work takes us wherever the cameras are rolling—working nationwide on various locations, studio lots, and unit bases.

We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, nutritious, and creative menus to hard-working casts and crews, keeping production moving one plate at a time.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate, adaptable, and highly organized Head Chef / Experienced Chef to join our crew. This isn't your standard 9-to-5 restaurant gig. You will be heading up or working within mobile kitchens, adapting to changing locations, and cooking everything from hearty breakfasts to fine-dining style lunches for large crews.

Key Responsibilities

Menu Planning & Execution: Design and deliver high-volume, diverse menus that cater to various dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, allergies) without compromising on flavor or presentation.
On-Location Kitchen Management: Lead or support the daily setup and breakdown of mobile catering trucks/facilities on unit bases nationwide.
Stock & Waste Control: Oversee food ordering, stock rotation, and minimize waste while operating within set budgets.
Hygiene & Safety: Maintain impeccable health, safety, and food hygiene standards (HACCP) inside a mobile environment.)
Team Leadership (For Head Chef): Manage and motivate junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive, hard-working environment during long shooting days.

What We Are Looking For

Experience: Proven track record as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in high-volume environments (e.g., event catering, hotels, cruise ships, or prior film/TV location catering).
Adaptability: The film industry is unpredictable. You need to be unfazed by changing schedules, early call times, or shifting weather conditions.
Travel Flexibility: Must be willing and able to travel nationwide and stay away from home for extended periods (weeks at a time depending on the production schedule).
Driver’s License: A clean, valid UK driving license is highly desirable (bonus points if you have experience driving larger vehicles/towing, though not mandatory).
Certifications: Level 3 Food Hygiene certificate (preferred) or Level 2 with extensive experience.(course can be provided for the Ideal candidate)
