Thrive Alternative Provision

Engagement Mentor – Nottinghamshire

Salary: £85 per day + expenses

Location: Across Nottinghamshire (based across Thrive sites and community/home settings)

Contract Type: Full Time 8:30 am – 3:00 pm – Term time only – Part Time will be considered for a suitable candidate

About Thrive Alternative Provision

Thrive Alternative Provision supports children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, anxiety and other barriers to engagement.

Our approach is relationship-based, flexible, and focused on helping young people re-engage with education through trusted adult relationships, vocational opportunities, and personalised support.

We are looking to appoint an experienced and passionate Engagement Mentor to support learners who are currently struggling to physically attend our sites.

About the Role

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable children and young people to re-engage with education.

The successful candidate will work directly with learners in their homes and within the local community to build trust, reduce anxiety, and develop confidence in accessing education. Many of the learners you will support will present with SEND, SEMH needs, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), high anxiety and disengagement from education.

You will support students through engagement-based activities tailored to their individual needs and interests. This may involve working within the home initially, before gradually supporting learners to access community activities and eventually transition onto Thrive sites.

The aim of the role is to create meaningful relationships with learners, reduce barriers to education, and successfully support young people back into structured learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

· Work directly with learners in the home and community to build engagement with education.

· Deliver engagement-based activities tailored to individual interests and needs.

· Support students experiencing anxiety, SEND, and SEMH barriers to education.

· Gradually support learners to re-engage with Thrive sites and structured provision.

· Take learners into the community to access activities that promote confidence, regulation, and social engagement where appropriate.

· Create and maintain Attendance and Engagement Plans for assigned learners.

· Monitor progress and follow agreed actions linked to engagement plans.

· Provide clear evidence of learner engagement, progress, and barriers through accurate reporting.

· Build positive relationships with families, carers, and professionals involved with the child.

· Work closely with Thrive site leads and safeguarding teams to support transitions into provision.

· Maintain professional boundaries and safeguarding standards at all times.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

· Has experience working with children and young people with SEND, SEMH needs and anxiety-based non-attendance.

· Has experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged learners to re-engage with education.

· Is confident working independently in family homes and community settings.

· Is patient, calm, relationship-focused and able to build trust with young people.

· Understands barriers to attendance and engagement and can adapt approaches accordingly.

· Is organised and able to evidence engagement and progress effectively.

· Has strong communication skills and is confident working with families and professionals.

· Can create and implement structured attendance and engagement plans.

Essential Requirements

· Previous experience in a similar role supporting young people with SEND/SEMH needs.

· Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

· Willingness to travel across Nottinghamshire.

· Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).

· Ability to provide two references, including one from the most recent employer.

· Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and professional practice.
