Café & Retail Operations Manager
£30,000–£35,000 OTE (£30,000 salary + Performance Bonus)
Full Time – Ruxstons, Wellington
Ruxstons has changed dramatically over the last few years. What began as a small shop has grown into a thriving independent business with a busy café, wholefood shop, online operation and our own artisan chocolate factory.
Our ambition is to become the South West's leading destination for artisan chocolate. With a large town centre premises and an on-site chocolate factory, we believe we are uniquely positioned to achieve this.
As the business has grown, the day-to-day operation now requires dedicated leadership. We have reached the point where the business needs a manager with the authority and experience to lead the team, maintain exceptionally high standards and take ownership of the daily operation. This will allow the directors to focus on growing the business while ensuring the highest standards are maintained every day.
This is not simply a café manager position. It is an opportunity to become a key leader within a growing independent business with genuine responsibility and the ability to shape the retail and cafe business side of the business.

The Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the business while ensuring the team delivers consistently excellent customer service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and motivating the café and retail team.
- Managing daily operations and ensuring shifts run smoothly.
- Training new staff and developing existing team members.
- Maintaining exceptionally high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
- Ensuring food safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Monitoring stock levels and reducing waste.
- Dealing professionally with customer feedback and resolving issues.
- Helping implement new systems as the business continues to expand.
- Taking ownership of operational standards so the directors can focus on growing the business.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has previous management experience within hospitality or retail.
- Can confidently lead a team and make fast and decisive decisions without needing to consult management.
- Is organised and enjoys solving problems.
- Takes pride in maintaining exceptionally high standards.
- Understands that Ruxstons is still evolving and enjoys improving and creating systems, procedures and standards.
- Wants to become part of a growing independent business with ambitions to become a market leader in artisan chocolate.
Working Hours
This is a full-time position, working five days per week, including the occasional Saturday.
Typical working hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, although some flexibility is required to support the needs of the business.
Salary & Benefits
- £30,000 base salary.

Performance Bonus Scheme
In addition to a base salary of £30,000, this role includes the opportunity to earn an annual performance bonus of up to £5,000. Futher details will be presented during the interview process.
