Full job description

Job Introduction

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our Urgent Treatment Centre team. In this role, you will support the clinical team in providing a high standard of patient care, assisting with minor illnesses, minor injuries, dressings, and phlebotomy. You will play an essential part in ensuring patients receive timely, safe and respectful care.

This role covers our Urgent Treatment Centre in Ormskirk and our Walk in Centre in Skelmersdale so willingness and ability to travel between the two sites is essential.

What You'll do:

Support and assist the clinical team in delivering high‑quality care to patients presenting with minor illnesses or injuries.
Carry out delegated clinical tasks including dressings, phlebotomy, and basic interventions.
Work effectively as a member of the Multidisciplinary Team, contributing to the smooth running of the department.
Ensure patient privacy, dignity and comfort at all times.
Promote health and wellbeing through patient interaction and support.
Maintain close liaison with the day co‑ordinator and other team members.
Keep accurate, clear and contemporaneous records in line with VCL procedures.
Provide clerical and administrative support when required.
Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies involved in patient care.
Understand and act upon safeguarding procedures to protect vulnerable individuals.
Participate in Clinical Governance, Risk Management activities and complete all mandatory and role‑specific training, including the Care Certificate.

About you:

Essential

Relevant experience in a healthcare or similar environment
Ability to deliver responsive, quality patient care
Strong written and verbal communication
Basic IT/computer skills
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
Able to follow written and verbal instructions
Reliable, flexible and willing to work across multiple sites
Keen to learn and develop new skills
Positive approach to change and new ways of working

Desirable

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification
Evidence of ongoing professional development
Previous experience in health or social care
