The Role
To work with the responsible pharmacist for dispensary services to ensure the safe and effective running of the dispensary services and ensure compliance with both national and local guidelines relevant to the area.
To ensure accurate and timely supply of discharge prescriptions, controlled drugs, stock and non stock to wards and departments.
In this key role, you will:
To undertake the day-to-day planning and organisation of the dispensary services workload and staffing to ensure a prompt and responsive service to patients.
To plan and prioritise the workload of technical staff and assistant technical staff assigned to dispensary services to ensure effective and efficient workflow to meet both the needs of the patients and the department.
To supervise dispensing activities to ensure that procedures relating to good dispensing practice are followed and that high standards and orderly methods of working are maintained.
To ensure that all documentation relating to dispensary services are completed and filed correctly.
To develop and implement standard operating procedures and ensure these are followed for all dispensing activities.
To ensure that records of services and maintenance on equipment and facilities are maintained.
Have Leadership within dispensary services, offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to take on a central role in leading and developing the dispensary function.
Have responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and coordination of dispensary services, ensuring the safe, efficient and patient-centred supply of medicines across the organisation.
Lead and manage staff rotating through the dispensary, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support workers, providing clear direction, supervision and support to ensure a consistently high standard of practice.
Be fostering a positive team culture, supporting workforce development, and ensuring all staff working within the dispensary are appropriately trained, competent and confident in their roles.
Working closely with senior pharmacists, you will also contribute to service improvement, workforce planning and the ongoing development of dispensary systems and processes
What You'll Bring:
National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
SVQ Level III
To be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Higher National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
Accredited final accuracy checking qualification.
Commitment to CPD
Demonstrate experience as qualified pharmacy technician in hospital pharmacy service
Demonstrable experience in dispensary services, this to include handling controlled drugs and clinical trial materials.
Experience in supervision of other staff or of a functional area of pharmacy
Work based Assessor Qualification would be an advantage
