We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Nightshift Staff Nurse to join our dedicated team within our 31-bedded specialist care home in Ayr.Our service supports adults under 65 years old with a range of complex health and social care needs, including:
- Mental Health needs
- Learning Disabilities
- Complex physical and neurological conditions
This is an opportunity to work in a highly rewarding environment where person-centred care, dignity, and quality of life are at the heart of everything we do.As a Nightshift Staff Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality nursing care, promoting independence, and supporting residents with complex clinical and emotional needs throughout the night.Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, effective, and person-centred nursing care during night shifts
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for residents with complex needs
- Administer medications and treatments in line with NMC guidelines and company policies
- Monitor residents’ physical and mental health conditions and respond appropriately to changes
- Support residents with dignity, respect, and compassion
- Lead and support support staff during night duty
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and care records
- Liaise with families, GPs, multidisciplinary teams, and external professionals where required
- Promote safeguarding, infection prevention, and health & safety standards
- Participate in handovers and contribute to care planning and risk assessments
- Support residents experiencing behaviours of distress or mental health challenges using positive and therapeutic approaches
Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
- Registered Nurse qualification (RGN, RMN, or RNLD)
- Current NMC registration
- Experience working within care homes, complex care, mental health, learning disabilities, or neurological care settings
- Strong clinical assessment and medication management skills
- Ability to work independently during night shifts
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Compassionate, patient-centred approach
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of neurological conditions and complex care support
- Understanding of positive behavioural support approaches
- Previous leadership or shift-leading experience
- Training in PEG feeding, epilepsy management, or complex care interventions
