Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable School Caretaker to maintain the safety, cleanliness, and overall condition of our school premises. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring a secure and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who take pride in their work and are committed to supporting the smooth running of our educational establishment.

We are an APSCo Member and all candidates must pass full screening and vetting.

Responsibilities

Carry out routine cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, corridors, toilets, and communal areas to ensure high standards of hygiene and presentation.
Conduct regular safety checks of the school premises, including fire alarms, emergency exits, and security systems.
Perform minor repairs and report major maintenance issues to the appropriate department or contractor.
Ensure outdoor areas such as playgrounds, sports fields, and car parks are tidy and safe for use.
Manage waste disposal efficiently and in accordance with environmental policies.
Monitor heating, lighting, and ventilation systems to maintain a comfortable environment within the school.
Assist with setting up rooms for events or activities as required.
Respond promptly to any security concerns or emergencies during school hours.

Requirements

Previous experience in property maintenance or caretaking roles is desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Basic DIY skills and knowledge of health and safety regulations are advantageous.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining attention to detail.
Physical fitness to perform manual tasks such as lifting, moving equipment, or outdoor maintenance work.
A positive attitude towards teamwork and supporting a school environment.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities or additional duties as required by the school schedule.

Pay: From £25,000.00 per year

Licence/Certification:

Enhanced DBS (required)
