Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our elderly care home team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality meal services and ensuring the well-being of residents. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a warm, caring environment while developing culinary skills within a supportive team.

Duties

Prepare and cook nutritious meals tailored to residents' dietary requirements, ensuring food safety standards are met
Knowledge of textured and modified diets is preferable
Assist with meal planning and presentation to enhance residents' dining experience
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area in accordance with health and safety regulations
Have good verbal and written skills
Support with food storage, inventory management, and ordering supplies as needed
Collaborate with care staff to accommodate special dietary needs or preferences of residents
Uphold hygiene standards during food preparation and service at all times
A kitchen assistant is present on shifts to support the cook with food preparation, they undertake the dish washing and help with maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.

Requirements

Minimum qualification NVQ Level 2 or 706/2 in Catering, Basic or Intermediate Food Hygiene certificate
Previous experience in food preparation, cooking, or kitchen roles is required
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in culinary environments
Experience working in a restaurant or catering setting is advantageous
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Excellent communication skills and a caring attitude towards elderly residents
Ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment
Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the care home and residents’ schedules
