Accounts Assistant

Many accounts jobs are just jobs.

You enter numbers. You send reminders. You process whatever lands in your inbox. And then you go home.

This one is different — not because the tasks are different, but because what's behind them is.

We're an 11-person family business in Penarth managing over fifty residential and commercial sites across South Wales. We've spent years trying to change the way people experience property management — with real transparency, genuine accountability, and the kind of service that a lot in this industry stopped offering a long time ago.

That only works if the numbers are right. And the numbers are only right if the right person is looking after them.

Who this isn't for.

If you're happy to follow a script and leave the thinking to someone else, this isn't for you.

If you need someone to tell you exactly what to do with every query that hits your inbox then this isn't for you.

If you see "accounts assistant" and think it means the same thing every day, across every client, handled the same way, then this is definitely not for you.

We manage over fifty sites. Every one of them has its own quirks, its own history, its own leaseholders. The role requires someone who can hold that complexity in their head, spot when something doesn't look right, and act on it without waiting to be asked.

We're not looking for someone to fill a seat. We're looking for someone who will make the role their own.

What you'll actually be doing.

The day-to-day is real accounts work: entering invoices, payment runs, reconciling bank accounts, keeping Xero up to date, raising recharges, managing client invoicing, and handling service charge and ground rent billing across all our sites.

You'll monitor and chase arrears, which means knowing when to send a reminder, when to escalate, and how to handle a difficult conversation professionally. You'll manage the accounts mailbox and deal with ad hoc queries and calls, which means no two days are exactly alike.

We'll make sure you're trained and supported from day one, our team is good at that. What we need is someone who picks things up quickly, builds confidence in the role, and has the initiative to act on what they know rather than waiting to be told.

Is diligent without being slow - accurate and efficient in equal measure
Communicates clearly, even when the answer isn't what someone wants to hear

What we're looking for.

A minimum of two years of experience in an accounts team, you should be comfortable with the fundamentals and ready to own them, not learn them. Experience with Xero is a bonus but not essential.

Beyond the basics: we want someone switched on, conscientious, and genuinely motivated by doing good work. We're a growing business, and this role matters to how we function day to day.
