United Worldwide Logistics is a freight and logistics business with five depots across Europe – our 160,000 sq ft headquarters in Pencoed, South Wales, plus operations in Manchester, Birmingham, Alicante and Paris. Express haulage and specialist movements are our primary focus.

The role

We're looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join our UK operations desk at Pencoed, working alongside our established planning team to support the day-to-day movements of our core fleet of 10 vehicles. Subcontracting is handled separately by the wider team – your focus is keeping our own fleet running tight, profitable and on time. Strong organisation and a think-outside-the-box attitude are essential; no two days on the desk look the same.

What you'll be doing

Planning and routing daily work across our core fleet of 10 vehicles, maximising utilisation and protecting service levels
Supporting our experienced planning team with same-day, next-day and dedicated UK loads
Managing live jobs from booking through to POD, keeping drivers and customers updated and resolving issues on the move
Working in our transport management system to book, cost and track shipments
Costing and quoting specialist movements – HIAB, oversized, wag & drag, multi-vehicle jobs
Liaising with drivers, depots and customers to keep work flowing and on time
Thinking creatively about routing, vehicle pairing and job sequencing to get the most out of every asset
Spotting cost and service improvements and feeding them back into the wider operation

What we're looking for

Minimum 2 years' experience as a Transport Planner, Traffic Planner or similar in UK haulage or logistics
Strong knowledge of UK geography, driver hours and working-time rules
Confident user of a transport management system
Highly organised with a sharp eye for detail
A think-outside-the-box mindset – the best planners on our desk find solutions others miss
Calm under pressure with strong commercial instincts
Sharp communicator, comfortable on the phone with drivers and customers
Exposure to HIAB, abnormal loads or other specialist work is a real advantage but not essential – we'll train the right person
