From woods to coast to mountains, Active Learning Centres (ALC) are dedicated to helping young people develop essential skills and character, and to promote wellbeing through outdoor learning.
Sealyham Active Learning Centre is based in Pembrokeshire, Southwest Wales, and forms the ‘coastal’ part of the woods/coast/mountains trio of Active Learning Centres alongside Cuffley (Hertfordshire) and The Towers (Snowdonia). We deliver a wide range of activities in and around the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and within our 90 acres of woodland, with our very own stretch of the beautiful Anghof river. The centrepiece of the site is the stunning historic 120 bed Sealyham Mansion.
Sealyham ALC provides outdoor learning experiences for clients aged 8 upwards, with a wide range of bespoke educational and hands-on school trips, but also for other groups such as universities, colleges, families, and corporate/adult groups. We work closely with groups prior to their travel to ensure that each itinerary meets the needs of the visiting students and teachers.
About the Role
Full time Fixed term Seasonal contract period between now – October 2026 with Flexible start and end dates.
37.5 hours per week (5 days out of 7) Predominantly Monday-Friday with some weekend work.
With a salary starting from £24,784 pro rata depending on qualifications (pending pay review)
As an Outdoor Instructor at Sealyham ALC, you will be inspiring young minds in their adventure, taking them through such activities as canoeing, coasteering, climbing, kayaking, archery, low ropes, high ropes and problem solving. Successful candidates will undertake a comprehensive training programme to enable them to deliver these activities, and more, in a safe and fun way.
This role requires enthusiasm, passion, energy, and a desire to lead by example. You will be a role model for our young people, ensuring they leave us with positive memories that will last them a lifetime.
Responsibilities:
· Leading/instructing multi-activities
· Briefing participants in matters of safety
· Facilitating our core programme in the areas of Essential Skills, Character and Wellbeing
· Activity maintenance and safety checks
· Provide high levels of customer service
· Complying with company culture of health and safety
· Record accident/incident reports
· Implement our safeguarding and well-being protocols
· Maintenance of the Centre
· Ensuring the group’s welfare while onsite and liaising with visiting staff members to ensure that their visit is successful
· Carry out some mealtime and night duties
About You
- Hold at least one outdoor NGB qualification and preferably be working towards others.
- You will be able to demonstrate experience of working with a range of client groups
- First aid certificate
- Driving licence - preferably with D1 and CPC
- Experience of working at a Multi activity centre
- Have a “can do” attitude
- Strong communication skills with all ages and abilities
- Ability to perform well working as part of a team and on your own
