Since launching the world’s first portable wood-pellet pizza oven in 2012, Ooni has grown into an award-winning, multinational company with a product range loved by pizza makers all over the globe. Our mission has always been to design innovative products that spark joy in our customers, and whilst we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished so far - we’re only just getting started.
As the Senior Engineering Manager, Testing & CPI, you are the technical authority for product reliability and continuous product improvement. You will lead complex mechanical engineering investigations and root-cause fault finding across the entire product lifecycle, moving beyond task execution to owning the strategy and timelines for technical fixes. You will operate with a high level of autonomy, setting the standards for how we diagnose complex failures and ensuring our engineering changes drive long-term organisational success.
This is an on-site role, working a minimum of 4 days per week from our office in Broxburn, Scotland.
What you’ll do:
Continuous improvement:
Strategy: Set the CPI strategy for Ooni including building connections across the entire Ooni value-stream to gather feedback, inform priorities and provide overall improvement to our processes.
Strategic RCA Oversight: Lead high-stakes investigations into field returns and production failures, defining the frameworks for root-cause analysis across the engineering team.
Continuous Improvement & Standard Setting: Identify and implement systemic improvements in design, function, and cost, while setting the standards for work quality that others must follow.
Risk management and governance: participate in key risk management and governance forums, representing the team’s work and partnering cross functionally on action plans.
Testing:
Testing Infrastructure & Strategy: Develop and oversee 6-12 month testing roadmaps, ensuring protocols for prototypes and production units align with Ooni’s strategic priorities.
Testing & Verification: You will mentor Test Engineers to execute test plans, fostering a culture where we "test, break, learn, and fix" to uncover critical issues as early as possible in the development cycle.
Test Method Development: Ensure our testing processes keep pace with an ambitious product roadmap. You will challenge the status quo, identifying gaps in current methodologies and empowering your team to develop new and improved test methods.
Data Analysis & Insight: Translate complex data into a competitive advantage. You will guide the team in distilling raw test data into clear, actionable insights, ensuring the NPD team has the data needed to make pivotal design decisions.
Test Equipment: Take ownership of our testing environment, from designing bespoke rigs to building business cases for capital investment, ensuring we always have the cutting-edge tools required.
Leadership & Collaboration:
Advanced Design & Supplier Leadership: Direct CAD refinements and collaborate strategically with external partners, quality-checking their work and leading the conceptualization of new design implementations.
Team Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers (T1-T3), fostering their growth and ensuring their work meets organizational and industry standards.
Cross-Functional Alignment: Proactively identify dependencies with other departments and communicate complex technical outcomes to stakeholders and senior management.
Decision Authority: Make well-informed decisions even with incomplete data, rationalizing technical paths with ROI calculations and long-term impact analysis.
Global Supplier Collaboration: You will regularly travel to Asia to work directly with manufacturing partners, leading on-site technical refinements and continuous improvement projects.
Regulatory Awareness: Ensure you and your team stay up to date on all relevant regulations, and that our developing products meet the requirements of all international markets.
What we’re looking for:
Extensive Professional Experience: Substantial experience in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred), with a track record of leading complex technical projects from inception to completion.
Technical Authority: Recognized expertise in manufacturing processes (including examples such as sheet metal work, electrical and mechanical processes), and advanced engineering principles.
People Leadership: Proven experience leading and scaling high-performing technical teams, with a track record of coaching individuals and designing effective team structures.
Strategic Communication: Ability to tailor complex technical messages for diverse audiences, including external manufacturing partners and internal executive leadership.
Analytical Rigor: Proficiency in using data-driven methods (e.g., Six Sigma, DOE) to solve unfamiliar or unforeseen technical challenges with business-wide implications.
