Job Description

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to the position of Behaviour Support Coordinator based at Plymstock School. The successful candidate, will be required to manage and continue to develop our caring and supportive learning environment for our young people, including the school vision of "Achieving Excellence through Curriculum and Culture".

The focus of this post is to complement the wider staff groups with implementation of the school’s Behaviour Policy. The Behaviour Support Coordinator will strive to improve the behaviour and habits of identified pupils whose behaviour is a barrier to their learning, through systematic interventions.

Under the direction of their line manager, within an agreed system of supervision, the post holders are responsible for the effective day-to-day organisation, coordination and supervision of students along with supporting the Reset and Internal Reflection rooms (CORE) rooms. Implementing agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom/CORE rooms.

Our CORE approach is:

C - Conduct: Be safe, follow staff instructions first time

O - Organisation: Be on time, have your essential 8, wear the uniform correctly

R - Respect: Be kind, respect others and the environment

E - Effort: Work Hard, Focus on your own work

This is a permanent role. 37 hours per week over 39 weeks per annum. Grade D 8 - 14

What we are looking for:-

Recent experience of working closely with children and young people to support improvements in behaviours and attitudes
Understanding of the issues related to the motivation, behaviours and attitudes of young people
Understanding of the current issues related to disengagement of young people with education
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop successful working relationships
Experience of working with individuals/groups in or out of the classroom

References will be used to check dates of employment and your relevant experience. A minimum of two written references will be taken up and these references will be requested before the interview.

References should cover the last 3-5 years' work history as a minimum

An online search of shortlisted candidates will be conducted in accordance with Part Three "Safer Recruitment" of Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance

The identity of referees and information relating to disclosures will be verified

You will be required to provide details of any relevant unspent or spent convictions in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions (Amendment) Order 1986

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be requested. This check will be cross referenced against the Protection of Vulnerable Adults list (PoVA), the Protection of Children Act (PoCA) list and List 99. These lists contain details of people deemed unsuitable to work with children or vulnerable adults. Please note that it is an offence to apply, offer or accept to do any work with children (paid or unpaid) if disqualified from working with children. Applicants will be challenged where inconsistencies exist.
