Are you looking to take the next step in your career working with children and young people?

Advantage Education is currently working with a specialist SEMH provision based in Portsmouth that is looking to appoint dedicated and resilient Pastoral Support staff to join their growing team.

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to support children and young people who require guidance, structure and emotional support to help them succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.

The Role

As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges and additional complex needs. You will work closely with teaching staff, safeguarding teams and outside professionals to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to thrive.

You will be responsible for building positive relationships with pupils, supporting behaviour management strategies and acting as a key point of communication between the school, families and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management

- Creating and implementing individual behaviour support plans

- Liaising with outside agencies, social workers, parents, guardians and law enforcement where required

- Providing 1:1 and small group pastoral support

- Supporting pupils during lessons, transitions and unstructured times

- Assisting with safeguarding and well-being support across the provision

- Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals

- Helping pupils re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes

About the Provision

The provision supports children and young people who are secondary age. Pupils often have EHCPs and may present with SEMH needs, attachment difficulties and additional complex needs.

Class sizes are small, typically no more than seven pupils, allowing staff to provide personalised and consistent support in a nurturing environment.

Facilities include:

- Sensory rooms and therapy spaces

- Practical and vocational learning environments

- Creative curriculum rooms

- Farm-based learning opportunities

The provision delivers a flexible curriculum with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, relationship building and positive behaviour support.

- Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEMH, pastoral or behaviour support settings

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills

- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
