An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to join a successful independent grain merchants and supply chain management business.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director and supported by a Finance Assistant, you will have full responsibility for the finance function, providing both operational and strategic financial leadership across the business.
This is a varied and hands-on role that would suit an individual who enjoys taking ownership, working closely with senior leadership team, and contributing to the success of a dynamic agricultural trading business.
The Role
As Finance Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the company's financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, effective financial controls, strong cash flow management, and compliance with statutory requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
- Management of budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
- Oversight of purchase ledger, sales ledger, reconciliations, and payment processes.
- Management of monthly payroll, PAYE, pensions, and associated compliance requirements.
- Responsibility for VAT returns, statutory reporting, and year-end accounts.
- Liaison with auditors, banks, insurers, and external advisers.
- Management of treasury activities and banking relationships.
- Monitoring working capital and supporting funding requirements.
- Supporting grain trading and crop marketing activities through financial analysis and reporting.
- Managing foreign currency transactions and monitoring FX exposure.
- Supporting export-related financial processes and documentation.
- Leading, developing, and supporting the Finance Assistant.
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, controls, and reporting processes.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and commercially aware finance professional who can operate effectively in a stand-alone finance leadership role.
You will ideally have:
- A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience managing a finance function within an SME environment.
- Strong management accounting, financial reporting, and cash flow management skills.
- Experience of payroll administration and statutory compliance.
- Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
- Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail.
- The ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Desirable Experience
While not essential, experience in any of the following areas would be highly advantageous:
- Agriculture, grain trading, crop marketing, commodities, food supply, or related sectors.
- Foreign exchange (FX) transactions and currency risk management.
- Export accounting and international trade.
- Stock accounting and commodity trading environments.
- Banking facilities and treasury management.
