As an Associate Cardiac Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Cromwell Hospital, you'll play a vital role within our Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Services, providing expert support to patients throughout their cardiac care journey. Working alongside the Lead Cardiac CNS and multidisciplinary team, you'll deliver high-quality specialist nursing care while developing advanced clinical expertise, leadership skills, and service improvement experience.
This role is ideal for a motivated and compassionate registered nurse with cardiology or cardiothoracic experience who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and progressing towards an autonomous Clinical Nurse Specialist role.
How you'll make health happen

Provide specialist nursing care to cardiology and cardiothoracic patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Undertake clinical reviews of post-operative cardiothoracic patients, identifying concerns and escalating appropriately to medical teams.

Support clinical decision-making, patient assessment, care planning, discharge planning, and continuity of care.

Act as a key point of contact for patients, families, consultants, and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Coordinate and support multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, including data collection, presentations, documentation, and follow-up actions.

Lead and participate in audit, governance, and quality improvement initiatives to support compliance with national standards, NICE guidance, and local policies.

Assist in developing and delivering cardiac and cardiothoracic patient pathways, including pre-admission services and post-operative follow-up clinics.

Promote patient education, shared decision-making, and self-management to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Support the delivery of education programmes, study days, teaching sessions, and competency-based training for nursing and MDT colleagues.

Contribute to the development of clinical competencies, learning resources, policies, and procedures.

Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and commitment to continuous learning while developing towards autonomous CNS practice.
Key Skills/ Qualifications

Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration.

Minimum of three years' experience in cardiology and/or cardiothoracic nursing.

Strong clinical assessment, communication, and organisational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated interest in specialist nursing practice and ongoing professional development.

Experience mentoring or supporting the development of colleagues.

Knowledge of local and national cardiology-related guidelines and standards.

Ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively, and work under pressure.

Proactive, patient-focused approach with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
-
Cardiac-related postgraduate qualification (or willingness to undertake further study).

Experience in audit, governance, service development, or quality improvement.

Experience supporting MDT working and service coordination.

Evidence of leadership responsibilities or service improvement projects.

ECG interpretation and/or arrhythmia management training.
