Location: Liberty Woodland School, Morden

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Thursday
8:30am – 4:30pm (Term Time Only)

Contract: Permanent (with a three-month probation period)

Reports to: Head of School / SENDCo

Liberty Woodland School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

This is not simply a classroom support role. We are looking for someone who understands that every child learns differently and who can offer calm, consistent and nurturing support throughout the school day. You will work alongside a child as they explore, learn and grow, helping them build confidence, develop independence and feel a genuine sense of belonging within our school community.

If you are patient, observant and enjoy building meaningful relationships with children, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting difference every day.

The Role

You will work closely with one pupil, supporting them throughout the school day both inside and outside the classroom. Your role will be to help them access learning, develop communication and social skills, regulate emotions and participate fully in school life.

Working collaboratively with teachers, our SENDCo and wider staff team, you will adapt your approach to meet the child's individual needs while encouraging independence wherever possible.

Key ResponsibilitiesIndividual Pupil Support

Provide consistent one-to-one support throughout the school day.
Build a trusting, positive relationship that helps the child feel safe, understood and confident.
Support learning activities both in the classroom and during outdoor learning experiences.
Encourage communication, independence and positive interactions with peers.
Help the child engage with lessons, routines and transitions throughout the day.

Inclusive Learning

Follow strategies outlined within the child's individual support plan.
Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to adapt learning where appropriate.
Observe progress and share insights that help inform future support.
Promote an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and able to succeed.

Wellbeing & Development

Support emotional regulation using calm, consistent approaches.
Celebrate small achievements and encourage growing confidence.
Foster curiosity, resilience and independence through everyday learning experiences.
Help maintain a safe, caring and nurturing learning environment.

Getting to know the child, their interests, routines and individual strengths.
Building a trusting relationship through consistency, patience and encouragement.
Supporting classroom learning alongside outdoor activities and creative projects.
Working with teachers and the SENDCo to understand the child's individual support plan.
Helping the child develop confidence in daily routines and classroom participation.
Celebrating moments of progress, independence and positive social interaction.
Becoming a valued member of our supportive school community.

Relevant experience within schools, childcare, tutoring, care or support work, residential settings or children's services would all be valued. Formal qualifications are welcomed but are less important than your experience, empathy and commitment to supporting children.

An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) and satisfactory references will be required.
