Full job description

The Role

As a Control Room Operator, you will play a key role in monitoring and managing Scotland’s trunk road and motorway network, helping to keep road users informed and traffic moving safely and efficiently.

Please note: This is not a security industry position.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor the Scottish trunk road network using CCTV and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
Manage both planned and emergency incidents across the network
Operate variable message signs, motorway signalling systems and traffic signals
Liaise with partner agencies including Police Scotland, road operating companies, roadside engineers, Transport Scotland and the Met Office
Provide accurate and timely travel information through the Traffic Scotland website, social media channels and stakeholder reporting

Salary & Benefits

£28,000 per annum
Enhanced overtime rate (time and a half)

Working Pattern

Full-time (average 40 hours per week)
Rotating shift pattern: 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts, followed by 4 days off
12-hour shifts
Includes weekends and public holidays

Skills & Experience Required

Standard Grade, GCSE or equivalent qualification
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a customer service, control room or operational environment
Strong written communication skills
Clear verbal communication ability
Good geographical knowledge of Scotland and its trunk road and motorway network
Applicants should live within reasonable commuting distance of South Queensferry
