Title: Senior Student Funding Manager

Location: University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JD

Salary: £49,119 - £58,265 per annum (pro rata)

About the Role

This post, covering a period of leave, is an exciting opportunity to work on the forefront of the development and delivery of access to graduate education. It is a strategic priority for the collegiate University to diversify our graduate applicant and offer holder pool, ensuring we attract and retain the very best graduate applicants to study at the University of Oxford, regardless of background.

The postholder will play a pivotal role in the management and future development of graduate access scholarships through the Academic Futures programme, a flagship initiative to transform the funding and support opportunities available to underrepresented and disadvantaged groups at the University of Oxford through scholarships and bespoke support programmes. During this fixed term post, exciting work will be required to deliver planned expansion of provision and to propose strategic development of new initiatives.

This post manages a sub-team of 5 staff, who deliver Academic Futures and a range of other key scholarship programmes, spanning graduate and undergraduate provision, including Commonwealth scholarships and the undergraduate Reach Oxford scholarship. The role supports the creation of new scholarships, through managing the matched endowment scholarship scheme, contributing to the long-term growth of scholarship provision.

The role bring opportunities to work directly with internal partners at all levels across the colleges, departments, and divisions, and with external partners including donors, government bodies and other Higher Education institutions. This is an excellent opportunity to make a direct impact to students and to contribute meaningfully to the University’s key strategic objectives.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

Pro-active and problem-solving in their approach to work, with exceptional collaboration skills to achieve strong consensus and working relationships across teams

Well-organised and thorough, with the ability to manage complex, distributed operations and work on a variety of projects simultaneously whilst meeting strict deadlines; proficient in handling large quantities of detailed and regulatory information

Confident and proficient in their numeracy skills, with the ability to plan and manage budgets and to present reports which include financial data.

A strong communicator to both internal and external audiences, who can use these skills to develop innovative and imaginative approaches to promote scholarship funding to maximum effect, and to produce reports and papers for senior managers, and presenting findings in committees and management groups.

In possession of strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills including the ability to establish working relationships with a range of people from different backgrounds and to work as part of a team; confident in dealing with external bodies and senior colleagues within the University, and handling confidential tasks

Experienced in designing and implementing administrative processes to support strategic aims, able to explore and exploit IT solutions to enable more streamlined processes and better gathering and analysis of relevant data.

Experienced in the line management, supervision and development of staff, and able to provide day to day leadership to others at a time of growth and change.
