About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Public Affairs Team to support the important delivery of our influencing and engagement work with key UK Government and Parliamentary stakeholders.
As the UK's leading consumer voice, we work directly with policymakers to support and improve the lives of consumers. The Public Affairs Team leads on our overarching engagement through influencing legislation and promoting our work through set-piece events such as parliamentary drop-ins and government roundtables. We are currently working across a number of diverse areas; such as securing reforms to the UK's consumer and competition policy; working with policymakers to improve fraud prevention measures, and fighting consumer rip-offs.
We have an opportunity for an engaged and driven individual who is passionate about politics and securing change to join our Public Affairs Team. The Public Affairs Officer will report into the Senior Public Affairs Manager and you will be supported to grow and develop within the role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with key political stakeholders in Government, Parliament, NGOs, think-tanks and other relevant businesses to increase the awareness and understanding of Which?
- Occasionally lead or provide public affairs support on the drafting of political briefings, legislative briefings, political correspondence and written submissions relating to our key advocacy and campaign priorities
- Monitor political developments and horizon scan for future opportunities on specific public affairs matters that are relevant to Which? and communicate these internally in a timely and effective manner
- Help facilitate and occasionally represent Which? in meetings and events, either with the Senior Public Affairs Manager, Senior Public Affairs Officer or individually, and communicate the outcomes and objectives of these engagements internally
- Manage the day-to-day recording and analysis of our public affairs contacts through monitoring key stakeholder relationships we hold in Government and Parliament across the External Affairs, Campaigns and Policy teams
About you:
- Have a good knowledge and understanding of how Government and Parliament works
- Be willing to be proactive in supporting and enhancing our influence and engagement with these key stakeholders.
- Be a team player, and able to work across the organisation with multiple teams to deliver our advocacy work.
- Have excellent organisational and planning skills to work across multiple policy areas and with a large number of external and internal stakeholders
- Have good time management skills to meet key internal deadlines.
The interview process for this role involves:-
- Sometimes a chat with a member of the PA Team by phone (typically 30 minutes), followed by
- An interview (approximately 45-90 minutes) consisting of values and experience-based competency questions and a role related task on a laptop
- On some occasions there may be a second interview with values and experience-based competency questions (approximately 30-60 minutes)
