The Role
We are seeking an NCTJ-qualified or equivalent experienced digital journalist to join our team.
The digital journalist writes daily news content for our three specialist B2B legal publications: Today’s Conveyancer, Today’s Family Lawyer and Today’s Wills and Probate.
Reporting directly to the managing editor, the digital journalist’s role is to inform, educate and influence each sector, delivering all the important stories that affect our readers to their desktops and inboxes.
The digital journalist is also responsible for optimising the news, features and images on each website to ensure visibility and accessibility, while monitoring daily output to ensure our content remains engaging and relevant.
The position would best suit somebody with experience in journalism and/or writing, including a law degree or legal practice experience, website development, or other relevant area.
This is a varied role offering an excellent opportunity for development in journalism in a growing media organisation, supported by an experienced team. Key to the purpose and delivery of the role is a genuine interest in what we do, a love of writing and getting to the heart of a story, and a passion for identifying and sharing relevant and insightful news with our professional audience.

- Monitoring developments within each sector and sharing the information and insight that impacts our readers’ roles and the wider legal sector.

- Monitoring engagement of our editorial output to ensure it is visible, accessible and well-read.
- Reporting results of editorial monitoring to inform future planning.
- Contributing to the growth of the publications through increased subscriber numbers and website views by ensuring quality, relevant, optimised content.
- Constantly striving to improve knowledge and skills for personal and professional growth, and to meet the objectives of the business.
Today's Media has embraced home working and all our team now work from home permanently. We are regularly in touch as a team through Microsoft365 and arrange regular get togethers.
Key skills we're looking for:
- Delivery of accurate work to tight deadlines with strong attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Wordpress, online content management systems, and monitoring and reporting tools.
- An understanding of search engine optimisation and online formats, text styles, anchor text, headlines, key word density, imagery and metadata.
- An understanding of performance metrics including Google Analytics.
- Able to take, and learn from, feedback.
It would be useful (although not essential) if you had:
- Experience of writing for commercial online publications or other media organisations.
- Experience of writing for specialist audiences and adapting styles to specific sectors
- A working knowledge of/experience within the legal sector and/or an understanding of legal concepts.
- Experience of design software, for example the Adobe Suite.
- Experience recording, editing and promoting podcasts.
- Video editing skills.
