About you
We’re looking for a qualified Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team at PDSA Glasgow, Shamrock Street. If you thrive on variety and want to make a meaningful impact, this could be the role for you. At PDSA, no two days are ever the same, you’ll see a wide range of medical and surgical cases that will challenge and develop your skills while making a real difference to pets and owners who really need our help.
You’ll bring adaptability and resilience to handle a diverse caseload, along with the clinical confidence to make sound, evidence-based decisions. You’re comfortable discussing realistic treatment options, creating clear plans that balance best practice with each owner’s circumstances, and you take a pragmatic, welfare-focused approach to doing what’s right for every pet. Excellent communication skills are key, you’ll be able to build trust with clients and work positively with colleagues across the hospital.
You’ll be a team player who enjoys a collaborative, supportive environment where sharing knowledge and learning from one another is encouraged. Working alongside an experienced, caring team, you’ll help champion our mission, inspire client contributions and contribute to the continuous improvement of our services.
About the role
This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with a varied caseload, including a mix of routine appointments and daytime emergency cases. It's an excellent opportunity to develop your emergency and critical care (ECC) skills while enjoying a rewarding surgical caseload.
You’ll be well supported in your clinical and personal development, and we’d love to welcome someone who is comfortable stepping into a busy role, with the support of colleagues (VS, RVN, VCA and reception alike all utilised to the height of their skills and qualifications) around you.
Work pattern & Rota
We are open to both full-time (5 days per week, 7.5 hours per day) and part-time (4 days per week, 7.5 hours per day) applicants, offering flexibility to suit your lifestyle.
Weekday shifts start no earlier than 8:30am, with the latest scheduled finish at 6:00pm, depending on the rota. We value a healthy work-life balance, so it's very uncommon for shifts to overrun, and any additional time worked is returned as time off in lieu (TOIL).
The role also includes participation in a weekend rota of approximately 1 in 7–8 weekends, working 9:00am to 6:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Weekend shifts are paid, and you'll also receive time off in lieu for the hours worked.
About the hospital
PDSA Glasgow, Shamrock Street is a highly collaborative, effective hospital, a great place for teamwork, case discussion and shared learning. Our teams have varied clinical interests, giving you access to a wide pool of knowledge and experience when discussing cases and treatment plans.
Our Pet Hospitals are modern and well-equipped and include separate dog and cat kennelling facilities, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and extensive orthopaedic equipment.
