The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and dynamic Non Medical Prescriber to join our clinical team in Burton upon Trent to provide high quality clinical assessment and rehabilitation services for substance misuse disorders.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health) Pharmacist or Allied Health Professional eligible for Independent Prescribing who has a passion for addiction treatment to influence service development, support clinical excellence, and help shape positive outcomes for the people we support.
Key Responsibilities
As our NMP you will undertake pre-admission clinical assessments, determine suitability for residential detoxification, prescribe and monitor detoxification medication regimes, provide ongoing clinical support through admission and contribute to the safe management of physical and mental health concerns within your scope of practice.
Clinical Assessment
- Undertake comprehensive pre-admission clinical assessments to determine suitability for residential detoxification.
- Review medical history, current medication, substance use history, physical and mental health needs.
- Assess risks including withdrawal, seizures, overdose and co-existing health conditions.
- Liaise with referrers, GPs, hospitals and community services.
Prescribing
- Independently prescribe detoxification medication within competence.
- Develop and review individual detoxification regimes.
- Prescribe appropriate medicines during admission.
- Monitor effectiveness, side effects and medication safety.
- Ensure compliance with NICE guidance, legislation and controlled drug regulations.
Clinical Management
- Provide ongoing clinical reviews during admission.
- Monitor withdrawal symptoms and respond to deterioration.
- Advise on physical health concerns.
- Participate in multidisciplinary reviews and care planning
Medicines Management
- Promote safe medicines management.
- Support compliance with CQC medicines standards.
Safeguarding and Risk Management
- Identity and act on safeguarding concerns

About You
You will be a motivated and resilient Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health) Pharmacist or Allied Health Professional eligible for Independent Prescribing who is committed to delivering outstanding care and supporting people on their recovery journey.
In order to be successful you will have:
- Registration as a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), HCPC or GPhC.
- Significant post-registration clinical experience
- Independent Prescribing Qualification
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of assessing and managing alcohol and/or drug detoxification
- Experience prescribing detoxification medication regimes
- Experience in CQC regulated services or simila
