Role Purpose
The Bench Joiner is responsible for the manufacture, assembly and finishing of high-quality bespoke joinery and furniture components in accordance with approved manufacturing drawings, technical specifications and Company quality standards.
The role supports the manufacturing process by assembling, fitting and finishing bespoke joinery products using traditional and modern woodworking techniques. Working closely with the Design, CNC Programming, Machining and Production teams, the post holder contributes to the successful delivery of bespoke residential and commercial joinery projects.
The Bench Joiner is expected to maintain high standards of craftsmanship, quality, health and safety and housekeeping whilst supporting continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing operation.
Key Objectives
- Manufacture and assemble bespoke joinery products in accordance with approved production drawings and specifications.
- Produce work that consistently meets the Company's quality standards and production deadlines.
- Ensure components are assembled accurately, safely and efficiently using approved construction methods.
- Carry out quality inspections throughout the assembly process to minimise defects and rework.
- Work collaboratively with Design, CNC Programming, Machining, Veneering and Production teams to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Maintain tools, equipment and workstations in a safe, clean and organised condition.
- Support continuous improvements in manufacturing quality, efficiency and workmanship.
- Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all Company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret production drawings, assembly drawings, cutting lists and manufacturing documentation.
- Assemble bespoke cabinets, furniture, doors, wardrobes, wall panelling, reception desks and other bespoke joinery products.
- Carry out dry fitting of components to ensure dimensional accuracy prior to final assembly.
- Fit hardware including hinges, drawer systems, runners, locks, handles, lighting components and specialist ironmongery.
- Carry out trimming, fitting, sanding and preparation of components to achieve the required quality standard.
- Use hand tools, portable power tools and workshop equipment safely and correctly.
- Ensure all assembled products comply with manufacturing drawings and customer specifications.
- Identify manufacturing defects and report quality concerns promptly.
- Work closely with CNC Operators and Machinists to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Assist with the movement, storage and protection of completed products.
- Maintain accurate communication regarding project progress and manufacturing issues.
- Ensure workstations remain clean, organised and safe throughout the working day.
- Carry out routine maintenance and safe storage of Company tools and equipment.
- Comply with all Company Health & Safety policies, safe systems of work and manufacturing procedures.
- Support colleagues across the manufacturing department to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and on time.
- To carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by Management
Skills & Experience:
- At least 3 years’ experience as a Bench Joiner in a high-end or bespoke workshop.
- Expertise in luxury joinery and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings.
- Strong experience with hand tools and woodworking machinery.
- A portfolio of previous high-quality work.
