Full job description

Part-Time Financial Controller

Location: Office-Based
Hours: 20 hours per week (4 hours per day, Monday to Friday, flexible to suit candidate)
Salary: £22.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate start available

About the Role

Leatherbarrows and Legerstar are looking for an experienced and organised Part-Time Financial Controller to oversee the day-to-day financial operations across both businesses with the support within a friendly team.

This is a varied, hands-on role that requires someone who can work independently, maintain accurate financial records, produce management information, and provide financial support to the directors. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining strong financial controls while supporting the continued growth of both companies.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Ledger & Credit Control

Chasing outstanding customer payments
Issuing customer statements
Monitoring debtor accounts
Managing and resolving overdue balances
Managing bad debt accounts, including arranging the disposal of goods where appropriate (e.g. eBay sales)

Purchase Ledger

Processing supplier invoices
Preparing and processing supplier payments
Maintaining accurate purchase ledger records

Financial Administration

Inter-company invoicing
Legerstar Storage invoicing
Processing and distributing incoming post where required
Managing insurance claims, including:
Processing claims
Settling claims
Recovering funds from insurers

Financial Reporting & Control

Daily cash flow monitoring
Preparing cash flow forecasts
Assisting with budgeting and financial planning
Preparing monthly management accounts, including:
Accruals
Prepayments
Depreciation journals
Bank reconciliations
Maintaining the fixed asset register
Preparing and submitting VAT Returns
Supporting statutory reporting requirements

Year-End Responsibilities

Preparing balance sheet reconciliations
Preparing supporting schedules for the company's accountants
Assisting with year-end accounts preparation
Liaising with external accountants as required
Preparing P11D returns (or willingness to take responsibility for this process following appropriate training)

Skills & Experience

Essential

Previous experience in a similar Financial Controller, Accounts Controller or Senior Bookkeeping role
Strong working knowledge of Sage or Xero accounting software
Experience preparing management accounts
Experience preparing cash flow forecasts and budgets
Excellent Excel and spreadsheet skills
Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Professional, trustworthy and able to handle confidential information

Desirable

Experience using both Sage and Xero
Experience preparing P11D returns
Experience working across multiple companies
Knowledge of Sage 50 Payroll (payroll is managed by an external provider)
