This is a full‑time, on‑site role supporting the smooth running of chambers and providing essential administrative and communication support to barristers, colleagues and clients.

Job Description – Office Administrator
Barristers’ Chambers, Cardiff
1. Purpose of the Role
To provide efficient, reliable administrative and organisational support to chambers, ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day running of the office and delivering a professional service to barristers, the practice administrators, the fees clerk and the office manager, clients, courts, and external stakeholders.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. General Administration
- Manage incoming correspondence, emails, and telephone enquiries, ensuring timely and professional responses.
- Maintain office systems, including filing (electronic and hard copy), document management, and archiving.
- Assist with the organisation of meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
- Support compliance processes, confidentiality protocols, and chambers policies.
B. Communication & Client Service
- Act as a first point of contact for clients, solicitors, courts, and visitors.
- Provide clear, courteous, and professional communication at all times.
- Handle routine enquiries and direct more complex matters to the practice administrator or the fees clerk or office manager or relevant barrister.
- Assist with maintaining chambers’ professional reputation through excellent client care.
C. Operational Support
- Support the practice administrators with diary management, scheduling, and administrative tasks.
- Support the fees clerk with billing and fee collection
- Support the office manager with various tasks as required
- Maintain accurate records, databases, and contact lists.
- Help coordinate chambers events, marketing materials, and internal communications.
D. Financial & Administrative Processes
- Assist with basic financial administration, including processing invoices, expenses, and fee notes under supervision.
- Support the monitoring of payments and liaise with solicitors or suppliers where necessary.
3. Skills & Experience Required
- Strong administrative experience in a professional office environment (legal sector experience desirable but not essential).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational ability.
- Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office and document management systems.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing deadlines.
- Professional, discreet, and reliable, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Positive team player with a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
