Full job description

Small Oaks is a small nursery setting in a beautiful rural village. We provide our children with a family experience in a home from home environment.

Our passion is to provide our children with the opportunities and experiences to learn about the world around them in a hands on way. With small numbers we are able to go out regularly in our nursery mini bus, to music groups, soft play centres, garden centres, farms and many more wonderful places!

We have a large focus on outdoor learning and regularly sing our way to the local woods or pond and venture out to local areas in the countryside.

What our staff love about our setting:

- Small group sizes (only 6 children under 2 and 12 x 2-4 year olds)

-Regular shifts that don't change each week

-Working between 7.30am and 5.30pm (no 6pm or later finishes)

-Small, family feel in a home from home environment

-Family business with a small, friendly team

- We spend time in mixed ages and the children develop wonderful relationships with each other

-Regular social events and treats for the staff

-The trips out of the setting and outdoor learning

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us as deputy manager. Are you creative, energetic and do you have a passion for the Early Years? If so, you could be just who we are looking for.

The role will involve you being responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for children whilst educating them and encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Responsibilities and duties:

Work closely with a small staff team, predominantly in our 2-4 year old's room. You will be in ratio with the children everyday and be the room leader for this room.

Manage the setting in the manager's absence.

Support the manager by undertaking administrative work.

Develop relationships with parents/carers and communicate with them on a daily basis.

Work as a key worker for a designated group of children.

Assist the team in providing high quality childcare, by providing inspiration to children through exciting activities in all areas of learning.

Ability to complete children’s daily diaries and learning observations on Tapestry.

Qualifications and skills:

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or above.

A love of the outdoors.

Experience in a leadership/management role would be ideal.

Good team work and interpersonal skills.

A good understanding of children’s development and the EYFS curriculum.

Experience of working with the early years age group.

Paediatric first aid would be ideal but not essential.

Small Oaks are committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. All appointees must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including references from past employers and a check with the disclosure and barring service (DBS). At least one reference will be required before the interview process.
