Full job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the eye clinic for a healthcare assistant.
We are seeking an enthusiastic healthcare assistant with a 'can do' attitude to join our nursing team. The post holder will be based at Queens hospital in Romford but may be required to cover other ophthalmic clinic sessions at any of our outreach clinics . We are particularly interested in applicants who have some experience of ophthalmology but consideration will be given to candidate who can demonstrate an interest in providing high standards of care for our ophthalmology patients with the aim, flexibility and commitment to develop the service. The successful applicant would be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the department to achieve high standards of care.

Provide a supportive role, demonstrating flexibility of thinking and action in the provision of consistently high standards of clinical practice.

Perform the necessary tasks and tests within agreed competency framework.

Take an active role in managing clinical risks such as patient safety in the clinical and waiting areas. Ensure that incidents are reported in line with Trust policy.

To contribute to an environment that fosters effective communication between patients, relatives and visitors and all members of the healthcare team in order to meet individual’s needs.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
