Your role: Onic is pioneering a new era of radio news. Through the creation of the Onic News Hub, we will have centralised production of national and international news, freeing our local journalists to do what they do best: breaking stories within their communities.
As a Multi-Media Local Journalist, you will be the eyes, ears, and voice of your franchise area. No longer tethered to a studio desk to read hourly, syndicated bulletins, you will spend a significant portion of your week "on the ground, and in the communities” within your TSA, investigating, interviewing, and reporting on the issues that matter most to our listeners. You will supply high-quality, hyper-local audio, digital, and video content to both our digital platforms and the Onic News Hub for broadcast.
Day to day you will:
Spend at least half of your working hours physically present on location, at press conferences, and within your station's local transmission area to source and break exclusive news and sports stories.
Capture and feature the voices of local politicians, community leaders, business representatives, and everyday citizens to ensure our broadcasts remain deeply connected to the public.
Script clear, engaging local news copy and prepare high-quality audio assets to feed back to the central Onic News Hub.
Produce creative, digital-first content including long-form web articles, video explainers, and real-time breaking news alerts tailored for multi-platform audiences.
Collaborate with local daily talk show production teams to expand your news stories into compelling long-form discussions and podcast formats.
Maintain strict alignment with Coimisiún na Meán (CNaM) Codes of Fairness, Objectivity, and Impartiality to uphold absolute journalistic integrity.
What we're looking for from you:
A degree in journalism, media, or a related field, alongside proven experience as a reporter across radio, digital, or print platforms.
Deep, demonstrable knowledge of your specific local franchise area, including its unique demographics, political landscape, and core community issues.
Technical proficiency utilising newsroom software systems (such as News Boss) alongside digital audio and video editing tools to build broadcast-ready packages.
A strong, engaging on-air voice paired with the ability to communicate breaking news with natural authority, clarity, and empathy.
An innovative mindset for adapting traditional news tracking into visually engaging text and video content tailored for fast-paced social media platforms.
A full, clean driving license and a complete willingness to travel extensively across the local region to capture breaking news as it unfolds.
Strong self-motivation to lead independent investigations while maintaining clear, proactive communication with central editorial leaders and local controllers.
