The role and the team

The post of Support Base Higher Level Teaching Assistant works closely with both the SEN team and student services providing support to those students unable to access their curriculum for a range of reasons.

The new support base is part of our learning support provision and a strong team approach is central to the way in which we enable all students to succeed.

Job Title: Support Base Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Responsible to: Assistant Headteacher and SENCo

Purpose of the role:

Supporting students who are working at Key Stage 2/Key Stage 3 level, delivering tailored lessons and interventions that enable learners to develop their literacy, numeracy, communication, and personal development skills.

Duties and responsibilities

The job holder will be required to work directly with students across all year groups in small group situations.
To liaise closely with other members of the school to ensure the continued academic progress and emotional well-being of identified students.

Job Activities

Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons/interventions aligned with the Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 National Curriculum.
Lead whole-class, small-group, and one-to-one learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.
Adapt learning materials and teaching approaches to meet individual student needs.
Assess, monitor, and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and pastoral staff.
Support students with SEND, SEMH needs, and those working significantly below age-related expectations.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.
Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and intervention programmes where appropriate.
Support students' social, emotional, and personal development alongside their academic progress.
To work closely with the intervention team to re-integrate students back into mainstream education where appropriate.
To establish a positive and supportive learning environment for students.
To establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations, whilst building self-esteem.
To adapt work where appropriate.
To be aware of students who access the facility and are disadvantaged, have a SEND or medical condition or those who may be emotionally vulnerable.
To take registers for all lessons.
To apply the school behaviour system where appropriate and issue praise.
To use school data systems to monitor the academic progress of students and target intervention where necessary.
To complete and maintain accurate and concise written/electronic records together with the production of specific reports as required.
To communicate sensitive information to other professionals where appropriate and signpost accordingly.
To work collaboratively with all members of the
To attend team meetings, and attend relevant staff training and development courses.
To undertake other duties, and/or hours of work, including lone working inside and out of hours, as may be required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of the job.

The post holder may also be required to perform duties other than those given above. These may vary from time to time without changing the general level of responsibility. Such variations would not justify the re-evaluation of a post.
