Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer specialising in Plant and Fleet operations to join our team in Barnsley. The successful candidate will be working in a self employed position responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving a range of plant machinery and fleet vehicles. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience in Repairs, MOT preparation, servicing and electrical systems.

Duties

Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, service and repairs on plant equipment and fleet vehicles. Mainly small plant and Light Commercial vehicles and Mini Excavators and trailers
Fabricate, modify, and assemble components using hand tools, power tools, welding, soldering, and schematics.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues by analysing schematics and electrical diagrams to identify faults efficiently.
Perform welding and fabrication tasks to repair or create parts as required.
Assist with equipment installation, assembly, and dismantling processes.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and repairs for compliance and future reference.
Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and industry standards.
Provide technical support for equipment upgrades or modifications to improve operational efficiency.
Support customer service initiatives by ensuring fleet availability and reliability.

Requirements

Proven experience in mechanical engineering working with Vans, small plant and trailers
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, heavy lifting techniques, and equipment repair procedures.
Mechanical knowledge of equipment maintenance programmes and troubleshooting techniques.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping.
Ability to work independently and part of a team.
Full UK driving licence
Punctual, Reliable and Trustworthy

Relevant qualifications or certifications in mechanical engineering or related fields are desirable but not essential if experience can be proven. This role offers a challenging yet rewarding environment for dedicated persons eager to utilise their technical expertise in a vital operational capacity within our organisation.
