About the role:
We are currently seeking an Art & Design Technician to join our Creative Arts department at The Bedford College Group.
As an Art & Design Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Technical Support & Resource Management – Provides technical support across Art & Design, preparing equipment, materials and workspaces while managing the safe storage, maintenance and distribution of resources
- Health, Safety & Compliance – Maintains high standards of health and safety, conducts equipment checks and risk assessments, keeps accurate records and ensures all learning environments remain safe and compliant
- Equipment Maintenance & Development – Troubleshoots technical issues, coordinates repairs and maintenance, supports the development of practical resources and ensures equipment is fit for purpose and safely used
- Collaboration & Student Support – Works closely with teaching staff to support practical sessions, demonstrate safe equipment use and enhance students’ learning experiences and skill development
- Professional Responsibilities & College Support – Assists with purchasing and stock management, supports college-wide activities including exams and open days, and upholds safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and professional development commitments
About you:
- Qualifications & Technical Expertise – Relevant Art qualification (Level 5/HND) with GCSE English & Maths, supported by strong knowledge of art processes, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and specialist equipment including laser cutters, kilns and large-format printers
- Art Technician Experience & Health & Safety – Experience working within an Art department and educational environment, with expertise in preparing, maintaining and safely operating equipment, alongside strong knowledge of COSHH and health & safety requirements
- Communication & Collaboration Skills – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build positive relationships with students, staff and stakeholders while contributing effectively as a flexible and supportive team member
- Professional Attributes & Organisation – Highly organised, adaptable and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, work under pressure and maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity
- Safeguarding & Continuous Development – Committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, with a proactive approach to ongoing professional development, flexible working and supporting services across college locations
