Full job description

Overview

We require a Veterinary Care Assistant to join our team. The candidate will provide compassionate, high-quality care to animals and support to our veterinary professionals. In this energetic role, you will assist with clinical procedures, ensure the well-being of our patients, and contribute to a positive experience for pet owners. This paid position offers a rewarding opportunity to develop your skills in a fast-paced, animal-centered environment while making a meaningful difference in the lives of pets and their families.

We would require the candidate to start their employment in our practice ideally within the next 8 weeks. There will be a 12 week probationary period.

The suitable candidate will be ready to start Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (apprenticeship pathway) in early 2027.

We are an extremely busy practice and candidates should be able to work in a fast paced environment whilst working closely in a small team.

Duties

Support veterinarians and veterinary nurses during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures
Assist with animal restraint, handling, and monitoring vital signs to ensure patient safety and comfort
Maintain cleanliness and sterilisation of surgical instruments, kennels, and treatment areas
Prepare laboratory samples for testing and assist with basic laboratory procedures to aid in diagnosis
Provide excellent customer service by communicating with pet owners about their pets’ care and post-treatment instructions
Monitor animals during recovery periods and record observations accurately in medical records
Restock supplies regularly and ensure all equipment is functioning properly for daily operations

Qualifications

Previous veterinary experience or related animal care background is highly preferred
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with team members and pet owners
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
Compassionate attitude towards animals and their families, with a proactive approach to patient care
Ability to follow safety protocols diligently and maintain a clean working environment

Pay: From £12.71 per hour
