We are located 45 minutes from Edinburgh and 50 minutes from Glasgow, in the beautiful Scottish Borders.
As a Maintenance Technician, you will be required to work as part of a flexible maintenance team responsible for the maintenance of the hospital’s buildings and facilities as directed by the Services Manager. Ideally you will live close by as after hours call-outs will form a part of this role.
Main Responsibilities
· Maintenance of both building fabric and services e.g. external and internal finishes, fittings and fixtures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical services.
· Compliance with all statutory requirements in relation to safe working practices and safe operation of plant, equipment, and services.
· Keeping accurate records of all activities to comply with Quality Assurance requirements.
· Use the computer / mobile phone-based software to work according to a schedule assigned by the Senior Maintenance Technician and / or Services Manager.
· Work in accordance with all relevant statutory compliance requirements.
· As part of the team provide first line out of hours contact for emergency repairs.
Indoor Maintenance
· Repairs to mechanical, electrical, plumbing and joinery within scope of competence.
· The post holder for the most part will work under his/her own initiative in completing assigned tasks to repair or resolve problems, request parts acquisition, and must report conclusion of work to including a coherent explanation of unresolved work to the Senior Maintenance Technician and / or Service Manager via the electronic system.
· Carry out a planned preventative maintenance programme.
· Liaise with the Senior Maintenance Technician and / or Service Manager regarding plant or equipment failures
· Use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works ensuring full compliance with Site Safety, Fire Safety, Control of Infection and COSHH.
· Undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques.
· Transportation of goods between sites when necessary.
· Materials and equipment uplift and delivery when necessary
· Work overtime as agreed to carry out emergency repairs as necessary.
Outdoor Maintenance
· Driveway and verge clearance of snow, leaves etc. and gritting when necessary.
· External pipe maintenance and cleaning.
Communications & Relationships
· Senior Maintenance Technician, Development Manager or Services Manager - for assignment of work and feedback.
· Hospital staff and Patients – regarding the equipment/system failure for which work is required.
· Contractors – regarding work out with scope of competency or contracted out due to time factors.
Physical Demands of the job
· By the nature of the role the post holder will be required to work within all areas of Castle Craig Hospital Estate. A degree of physical fitness is essential for the post holder to undertake the full range of duties required.
· Working from ladders, mobile towers, and mobile elevated work platforms may be required. Appropriate training will be given in regards to the use of this equipment and working at height.
Working Hours:
· 40 hours per week
· Monday – Friday
· 08h00 – 16h00
Requirements:
· Team player, conscientious, methodical, flexible approach.
· Participate in training as required to fulfil duties of the post.
· Physical ability to undertake duties.
· Self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision.
· Should have training or qualifications in a relevant trade (electrician, plumber, joiner, plasterer, heating engineer etc).
· General knowledge of building fabric and services.
· Competent to undertake work on the type of buildings and facilities for which the appointment is sought.
· Time management skills.
· Ability to prioritise work load.
· Ability to work under pressure.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
· Must be able to use computers and mobile phone apps for receiving communications and tasks.
· Full driving licence.
