Overview of the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Scientist to join our growing team, based in Sheffield. The ideal candidate will hold a BSc or MSc in a relevant field with proven skills in cell culture and molecular biology. We are looking for an individual who wants to be part of an exciting opportunity and contribute to our company culture. You should be enthusiastic, willing to learn new skills, and able to operate effectively within a team. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential. While the role primarily involves regular hours, there may be occasional weekend work required.
Key responsibilities
● Maintaining mammalian cell cultures, including passaging and cryopreservation (specifically CHO and HEK lines, among others)
● Conducting experiments to a high standard while maintaining accurate and detailed experimental records
● Communicating updates on project status to the project leader and wider team
● Performing work assignments accurately and safely according to established health and safety procedures
● Assisting with various molecular biology tasks
● Take responsibility for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables
Profile & Qualifications
● BSc (or equivalent) or MSc in a relevant field (e.g. Biological or Life Sciences, Biotechnology)
● Practical laboratory experience specifically within a cell culture environment
● Hands-on experience with protein quantification
● Experience in molecular biology highly desirable
● Familiarity with SOPs, lab documentation, and health & safety compliance
● Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
● Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
