Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join Sheffield as a Repairs and Maintenance Officer in Neighbourhood Services, managing our 38, 000 council homes and providing safe and warm homes and giving an excellent service to our customers.

The job role will include -

To undertake inspections of work following requests for repair, diagnosing what repairs are required, specifying and ordering works
Carry out joint inspections with Neighbourhood Officers offering assistance and guidance on matters relating to general maintenance
To specify, monitor and control works to properties, assess the standards of tenant’s improvements and give advice on requests from customers to make alterations to their homes
To liaise as necessary with our in house repairs contractor and specialist sub-contractors to ensure satisfactory completion of works

The Successful Applicant will be -

Able to deal with contractors, other agencies and have good customer care skills and visit sites
To be able to undertake stock condition and dilapidation surveys
Be a team player who is organised, and is calm under pressure
Able to produce high quality reports that diagnose repairs and investment requirements with recommendations to senior managers
Be able to manage a varied and demanding workload and be able to prioritise work accordingly

The experience and qualifications we are looking for -

The candidate must hold an appropriate trade qualification, such as City and Guilds or ONC in a related building construction / surveying subject. In addition they must have significant practical experience in a building construction environment.
We also require our candidate to have a good understanding and practical application of but not limited to all areas of construction health and safety, Construction, Design and Management Regulations, asbestos management/awareness, building regulations, planning regulations and on site working practices
Experience of surveying domestic and non-domestic buildings and diagnosing property defects is essential as is experience of preparing schedules of work/specifications

The team are based at Solpro Business Park, Attercliffe, Sheffield. There is a requirement for the postholder to carry out site visits to customers’ homes and properties across the city. The team work a hybrid model and this post will spend 80% working out on site with the remainder of time either working in the office or remotely at home.
