Apprentice Sports Turf Operative

Leicester City Football Club

Location: Leicester City Training Ground, Seagrave, Leicester, LE12
Contract: Fixed-term contract until July 2028
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Are you passionate about football and want to play a key role behind the scenes? Leicester City Football Club is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Grounds Team as an Apprentice Sports Turf Operative.

Based at our state-of-the-art Seagrave Training Ground, this hands-on apprenticeship will give you the chance to develop industry-leading skills in maintaining elite-level football pitches used by professional athletes.

This is your opportunity to learn from experienced grounds staff and build a rewarding career in sports turf management within a world-class football environment.

About the Role

As an Apprentice Sports Turf Operative, you will gain practical, on-the-job experience supporting the maintenance and preparation of high-performance playing surfaces across our training facilities.

Working alongside experienced professionals, you will develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed within the sports turf industry.

Key Responsibilities

Pitch Maintenance & Care

Assist with routine pitch maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, and line marking
Support the application of fertilisers, herbicides, and pesticides in line with safety standards
Learn and assist with specialist tasks including aeration, scarification, and topdressing
Monitor pitch conditions and report any issues to senior team members

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

Gain hands-on experience operating groundskeeping machinery (mowers, sprayers, irrigation systems)
Support routine maintenance and basic repairs of equipment
Help maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment, including equipment storage
