Full job description

Herd Manager – Near Glastonbury

We’re looking for a Herd Manager with a strong passion for animal health and welfare to join our dairy team in a large-scale farming and processing business near Glastonbury.

The Business

800 Holstein Friesian cows
Müller Direct contract
Milking 3x daily on a 60-point rotary
In-house forage production

The Role

A hands-on position working with cows daily, including:

Improving herd health, performance, and welfare
Monitoring and maintaining SCC and Bactoscan levels
Fertility management, including AI
Fresh cow health monitoring
Providing basic foot care (first aid level)
Relief milking as required
Overseeing day-to-day activities of the herd team
Working alongside vet and nutritionist on herd health
Participating in an out-of-hours/on-call rota

The Person

Strong team player with good communication skills
Solid knowledge of cow and herd health
Experience with large dairy herds
Ideally AI and foot trimming trained (recent experience preferred)
Proven experience managing or supervising a small team

Package & Requirements

Competitive salary and accommodation package
55-hour week (11 days on, 3 days off)
Full driving licence required
