Working Pattern
This is a full-time position working long day shifts and sleep-ins as part of a rolling rota.
The role includes:
- Long day shifts
- Sleep-ins and morning support shifts
Successful applicants will be expected to work weekends, bank holidays and sleep-in shifts as part of their rota.
About the Role
As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a vital role in creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where young people can flourish.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Delivering high-quality care and support in line with care plans
- Supporting young people to develop independence and life skills
- Delivering key work sessions
- Supporting education attendance and achievement
- Facilitating and supervising family contact
- Encouraging participation in activities, hobbies and community opportunities
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Supporting young people during periods of emotional distress, behavioural crisis and dysregulation
- Using approved de-escalation and physical intervention techniques where necessary and in accordance with training and company policy
- Supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes and future aspirations
- Maintaining accurate records and reports
- Attending meetings and contributing to care planning
- Supporting with household tasks and maintaining a warm, welcoming and homely environment
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals
Is This Role Right For You?
Residential childcare is one of the most rewarding careers available, but it can also be one of the most demanding.
The young people we support have often experienced significant trauma, disrupted relationships, instability and adverse childhood experiences. As a result, some young people may present with emotional and behavioural difficulties, behaviours that challenge, verbal aggression, property damage, missing from home incidents and periods of emotional dysregulation.
This is not a desk-based role. You will be actively involved in supporting young people through both their achievements and their most challenging moments.
There may be occasions where young people present a risk to themselves, others or their environment. In these situations, staff are required to follow behaviour support plans, use de-escalation techniques and, where necessary, implement approved physical intervention techniques in line with training, legislation and company policy.

Essential Requirements
- Aged 22 years or over (in line with Ofsted regulations)
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Genuine passion for supporting children and young people
- Ability to work flexibly across a rota pattern including sleep-ins
Desirable Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent
- Experience working with children and young people
- Experience within residential childcare, education, youth work, support work or similar environments
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Experience supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties
