Performing Arts and English Literature Tutor

We are an Independent Special School, and looking for someone who LOVES drama and performing arts and would like to develop that area in our curriculum. In addition, you would need to be able to teach English Literature to qualification standard. You may already be a qualified teacher or someone who would like to become a teacher. This role might suit a newly qualified teacher or an experienced HLTA but whoever the successful candidate is, they will feel passionate about helping our pupils improve their literacy skills and qualification in this absolute life skill. The position will be based in our Upper School Key Stage 4 and post 16 Centre at Kingsland Grange is Shrewsbury. The successful person will be required to deliver Performing Arts and English Literature to a variety of pupils who have specific learning needs, for both engagement for learning (E4L) and qualifications. You will be supported by the English Lead, the Head of Teaching and Learning and others in the department.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Manage pupil learning through effective communication with relevant members of staff in the team.
- Ensure continuity, progression and cohesiveness in your teaching.
- Use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match learning objectives and the range of pupil needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils.
- Work with support staff (including prior discussion and joint planning) in order to benefit from their specialist knowledge and to maximise their effectiveness within lessons.
- Set high expectations for all pupils, to deepen their knowledge and understanding and to maximise their achievement.
- Use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect which allows pupils to feel safe and secure and promotes their self-esteem
- Support the development of the subject area in coordination with the Lead English Teacher and the Assistant Head (Teaching & Learning)
Our pupils do have a range of challenges from moderate learning difficulties to social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and may present challenging behaviours.
