Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Nursery Cook to join our new nursery team on a part-time basis from September 2026. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for young children in a nursery setting. This role requires a passion for food preparation, excellent culinary skills, and a commitment to food safety standards. The successful applicant will contribute to creating a warm and welcoming environment where children can enjoy healthy meals tailored to their dietary needs.

Responsibilities

Prepare and cook a variety of nutritious meals and snacks suitable for young children in accordance with dietary guidelines and nursery policies.
Able to prepare food in accordance with the DfE EYFS nutrition guidance
Ensure all food is prepared in a hygienic manner, adhering to food safety regulations at all times.
Organise meal portions and serve food efficiently during designated meal times.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, sanitising surfaces, and storing ingredients correctly.
Monitor stock levels of ingredients and notify management when supplies need replenishing.
Collaborate with nursery staff to accommodate specific dietary requirements or allergies.
Follow all health and safety procedures to ensure a safe cooking environment.

Experience

Proven experience in food preparation and cooking within a professional kitchen environment.
Previous experience working in a nursery, childcare setting, or similar environment is desirable.
Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations applicable to food service for children.
Experience with meal preparation, serving, and managing kitchen operations efficiently.
Familiarity with culinary techniques suitable for preparing meals for young children is preferred. This role offers an opportunity to contribute positively to the wellbeing of children through nutritious meal provision while working in a supportive team environment.

Pay: From £13.00 per hour
