Full job description

Job role:

To optimise medicines management and medication processes within the surgery to achieve highly effective, safe, patient centred care, in line with the latest guidelines. The Pharmacy technician will be working alongside Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and prescription clerks.

Main Responsibilities:

To support the management and development of the prescribing systems to ensure safe, effective, and quality prescribing within the surgery.
To work closely with the Clinical Pharmacist for prescribing on individual prescribing projects or audits.
To develop strong working relationships with local community pharmacies to assist patients and provide a high-quality service.
To act as lead contact for any complex prescribing queries on behalf of the network.

Key Duties:

To carry out clinical audits on behalf of the surgeries
To support the pharmacy team with projects such as medicines optimisations
To risk stratify patients to target cohorts who need an SMR in line with NHS England guidance
Support and supervise prescribing clerks in cost saving programmes

Professional Responsibilities:

To work under supervision of a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist
Be responsible for remaining up to date with training course CPD
To participate in clinical supervision

Clinical Responsibilities:

Highlight any gaps in knowledge/training to the management team
Remain up to date with clinical guidelines to ensure practice remains evidence based
Work In line with organisational policies and procedural guidelines
Attend and participate in meetings when required

Clinical Governance:

Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded promptly in the patient’s notes on SystmOne.
Ensure the safety of patients, relatives and colleagues and to report all incidents and ‘near misses’ in line with the risk management policy
Remain up to date with mandatory training
Maintain confidentiality at all times

Experience

Essential:

Evidence of experience in Primary Care and the Prescribing Processes in Primary Care
Experience of working flexibly and effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Experience of having to prioritise caseload/manage own time effectively
Experience of managing change and conflict situations

Desirable

Experience of Audit

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 / BTECH in Pharmacy Services or equivalent nationally recognised qualification
Accredited Checking Technician Qualification

Pay: £15.50 per hour
