Full job description

The focus of the role will be to embed sustainable procurement practices and ensure that suppliers implement Net Zero Carbon Tools and provide accurate carbon emissions data to help the University maximise and measure its positive impact throughout its buying and contracting activities. The role holder will influence and build strong working relationships with members of relevant task and finish/steering groups that have been set up to plan and implement the necessary carbon reduction strategies and will proactively identify areas where Procurement can add value in terms of sustainable, carbon-reducing solutions in support of the University’s sustainability plan and strategic goals.

The Person

A procurement professional with an in-depth understanding of sustainability and sustainable procurement practice which you will apply in a cross-functional business environment. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, be able to influence and build strong working relationships with members of relevant task and finish/steering groups that have been set up to plan and implement the necessary strategies.

Directorate/Function

The Directorate for Finance, HR, and Infrastructure plays a critical role in shaping and supporting the University’s strategic and operational success. With a focus on excellence, efficiency, and people-centred practices, it delivers vital services that influence the daily experience of staff and students while enabling long-term institutional growth. These services span financial management, workforce development, and the maintenance of both physical and digital infrastructure - ensuring the University’s operations and ambitions are fully supported. With a clear focus on service quality, innovation, and people-first practices, the Directorate operates in close partnership with academic faculties and senior leadership to ensure institutional goals are achieved. It is driven by a commitment to excellence, service, and sustainable progress, promoting a culture where collaboration, innovation and transformation thrive. This is an opportunity to join a proactive, solutions-focused team whose work directly contributes to the University’s continued success.

Kingston University’s Corporate Procurement Unit (CPU) is part of Finance (FI&HR Directorate) and consists of a team of procurement professionals who strategically source goods and services to ensure the most efficient, sustainable and effective use of University funds.

Further information

This is a permanent, part-time position working 22.2 hours per week with a starting salary of £30,096 per annum (60% pro rata to £50,160 per annum).
