About the Role:
London is known for its strong commercial, construction, infrastructure, and engineering sectors, and at HMT Refractory Engineering Ltd, we bring that same technical standard into the specialist engineering projects we deliver. We support industrial, construction, and technical clients with reliable project coordination, practical engineering knowledge, and professional service delivery.
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Project Manager who can take ownership of complex engineering projects from planning through to completion. This role is not just about managing schedules. You will coordinate technical teams, suppliers, contractors, budgets, project risks, and client requirements to make sure every project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the agreed standard.
You will work closely with senior leadership, engineers, site teams, procurement, contractors, suppliers, and clients to keep projects organised, solve issues early, and ensure that technical delivery remains aligned with commercial and operational goals.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment: Our office is based in London, close to major business, construction, infrastructure, and engineering networks. We value a professional, structured, and hands on working environment where people are trusted to take ownership and deliver strong results.
Technical Impact: Engineering project delivery is central to our business. You will have a direct role in improving project standards, coordinating technical work, and ensuring clients receive reliable results.
Specialist Industry Focus: We work across engineering, industrial support, refractory materials, construction coordination, and technical project delivery, giving you the opportunity to manage challenging and varied work.
Growth: You will have the opportunity to improve project processes, strengthen supplier relationships, support technical teams, and help the company expand its engineering service capability.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery: Manage engineering projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the required technical and quality standards.
Technical Coordination: Coordinate engineers, site teams, contractors, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure clear responsibilities, smooth communication, and steady project progress.
Scope and Requirements Management: Review project requirements, define deliverables, manage changes, and ensure technical scope is understood by all relevant stakeholders.
Budget and Cost Control: Monitor project budgets, review supplier and contractor pricing, manage variations, track spend, and support accurate financial reporting.
Risk and Issue Management: Identify technical, commercial, safety, and delivery risks early, then work with the right teams to resolve issues before they affect project outcomes.
Client Communication: Act as a senior point of contact for clients, providing updates, managing expectations, responding to concerns, and maintaining professional relationships.
Quality and Compliance: Ensure all project activity follows company standards, client specifications, health and safety requirements, and relevant engineering or site procedures.
Procurement Support: Work with procurement teams to source materials, equipment, suppliers, and subcontractors needed for successful project delivery.
Reporting and Improvement: Prepare progress reports, track milestones, review project performance, and recommend improvements to delivery processes.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience: 6 or more years of experience in engineering project management, construction project delivery, industrial services, refractory works, technical operations, or a similar project based role.
Project Management Skills: You can manage schedules, budgets, technical teams, suppliers, risks, documentation, and client expectations while keeping projects organised and moving forward.
Technical Understanding: You understand engineering delivery, site coordination, technical documentation, contractor management, quality control, and practical project constraints.
Leadership Skills: You are confident leading project meetings, guiding teams, resolving issues, and keeping people accountable for agreed actions.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills are required. You should be comfortable speaking with clients, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and senior management.
Tools and Reporting: Experience using project management software, spreadsheets, cost trackers, engineering documentation, procurement trackers, or reporting dashboards is highly desirable.
Mindset: You are organised, practical, safety conscious, and calm under pressure. You know how to manage technical complexity, control project risks, and deliver quality results without losing sight of timelines or budgets.
