Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Fish Shop Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about seafood and food preparation, with a keen eye for quality and hygiene. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in food production within a busy retail environment, providing exceptional service to our customers. The position is paid and suitable for individuals eager to learn and contribute to a vibrant team.

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and presentation of fresh fish and seafood products
Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in accordance with health regulations
Support the butchery of fish, including filleting and portioning as required
Provide excellent customer service by offering advice on seafood options and handling customer enquiries
Ensure stock levels are maintained, organised, and properly rotated to prevent waste
Assist with the daily cleaning of work areas, equipment, and display cases
Follow all food safety procedures during food handling and preparation processes

Requirements

Previous experience in food production, culinary roles, or kitchen environments is desirable
Knowledge of food safety standards and practices within a retail or restaurant setting
Experience in butchery or fishmongering is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety
Good communication skills with a friendly approach towards customers and team members
Willingness to learn new skills related to seafood preparation and food handling
